Restoration / Preservation:
Acid rain, salts, extreme weather, and carbon dioxide can loosen bricks and stones, especially on heavily traveled roads. And older houses can develop cracks and fissures that, if left untreated, can ruin your house's foundation.
Those houses deserve to be restored to their natural beauty -- and Custom Brick and Stone excels at the restoration process. We use an historically correct lime mortar mixture that matchs the original mortar of historic houses.
Tuckpointing:
Tuckpointing is carried out when the existing mortar joints break down and start to crumble, causing holes in the brickwork which can lead to structural damage and cracking.
The joints usually break down due to weak lime mortar or from exposure to extreme temperatures. The re-pointing process involves removing the remaining joints to a depth of 30mm and injecting a new mortar into the brick joints which are finished to match the existing joints.
It is easy to damage old brickwork by inappropriate pointing It is also important to use both a correct mortar mixture and the appropriate joint mortar used for repointing historic buildings should be based on lime rather than cement for practical as well as aesthetic reasons.
We use an historically correct lime mortar for repoiniting the brickwork of historic buildings.
